Day 3- US Capitol, Ford's Theatre & the Holocaust Museum

This morning our group got to experience "real DC". We got onto the Metro and took it all the way from our hotel to the Capitol building. When we got to the Capitol, we were lucky enough to have a guided tour of the inside of the building.

Just a quick walk away- the group headed into Ford's Theatre where they saw the balcony in which Abraham Lincoln was shot. Then we took a tour of the Peterson house where Lincoln died the next morning.

After lunch in the area, BCS walked to the Holocaust Museum where we spent the afternoon before dinner in Chinatown.

We had a  day full of new experiences and learning. We got back into the Metro and made our way back to the hotel.

We got proof that the parents have survived the week- and even had some fun!!

Day 2 - Charlottesville,VA & Monticello

It was a beautiful day here in Virginia today, so we took advantage of it! We started off early and headed south to Charlottesville where we took a guided tour of the University of Virginia. After walking the grounds we went to "The Corner" for lunch. Many of the students and parents took their lunch to go and ate on the Lawn at UVa.

We continued to enjoy the sunshine by heading to Monticello and getting a tour of the house that Thomas Jefferson designed and the grounds surrounding it. The students were able to see the similarities between the University, founded by Jefferson, and his house.

First Day! Mount Vernon & the National Mall

BCS 8th graders flew into BWI around 12 this afternoon and we hit the ground running! Our first stop was Mount Vernon, home of George Washington. After eating lunch and exploring the grounds and gardens, we had a tour of the Mansion. Stopping in each room for an explanation of the purpose it served, the students were able to learn even more about Washington.
But the day didn't end there- we stopped for a quick bite to eat and then had an evening tour of the monuments. Jefferson, Lincoln, WWII, and Vietnam were some of the many stops.
